Hancock County, Mississippi, is located in the far southwest corner of the estate, bordering the Gulf of Mexico. It is bound on the east by Harrison County, Mississippi, on the west by St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, and to the north by Pearl River County, Mississippi. Hancock County is part of the Biloxi-Gulfport Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Hancock County is named for John Hancock, one of the founding fathers of the United States. NASA’s largest rocket engine test facility, the John C. Stennis Space Center, is located in Hancock County.
Hancock County is part of the 8th Chancery Court District, along with Stone County and Harrison County. The county seat is Bay St. Louis. The cities of Hancock County are Bay St. Louis and Waveland. Other towns and communities include Diamondhead, Kiln, Pearlington, and Shoreline Park.
