Marion County is located in South Mississippi. It is bound on the north by Jefferson Davis County, on the east by Lamar County, on the southeast by Pearl River County, on the south by Washington Parish, Louisiana, on the west by Walthall County, and on the northwest by Lawrence County.

Marion County is named for American Revolutionary War guerilla leader Francis Marion. It’s only city and county seat is Columbia, Mississippi.

Marion County is part of the 10th Chancery Court District, along with Forrest County, Lamar County, Pearl River County, and Perry County. Chancellors in the Tenth Judicial District are Chancery Court Judges Sebe Dale, Jr., Johnny L. Williams, and James H.C. Thomas, Jr. The Chancery Clerk is:

Like other Mississippi counties, Marion County follows Mississippi Uniform Chancery Court Rule 6.1, which requires every fiduciary (such as an executor or administrator) to be represented by a Mississippi attorney unless such fiduciary is an attorney.
